"Cherish those that march to the beat of their own music. They play the most beautiful heart songs."

Vel's sister Lorie is one of many young adults diagnosed with a neurodevelopment disorder like Autism. She aged out of the public education system. and was in desperate need of a place to continue to grow and learn. Vel has been a Zumbathon instructor since it's inception. The funds raised from the last two Zumbathons have helped The L.I.F.E. Project remodel their location from a run down thrift store to a bright and beautiful learning space. They also have expanded their program from 2 participants to 11 in the past two years. It is their vision to continue to grow and serve the needs of adults with Autism and other neuro-developmental disorders. Please click on The L.I.F.E. Project link to learn more about this local and truly deserving organization. Be sure to buy your ticket, donate, or sponsor a dancer. 100% of the proceeds go directly to this 501c3 non-profit. Come out to shake and shimmy with us on April 8th! Lets raise some money and help L.I.F.E. continue to grow!" The L.I.F.E. Project is a 501c3 non profit organization

The Zumbathon for Autism Awareness was started in April 2013 by Amy Mugica, a Zumba instructor and mother of a daughter on the autism spectrum. Amy wanted to use her passion for Zumba to raise money for causes that aided other families effected by ASD. The first event brought in 100 participants and raised $2,500, which was donated to the Autism Society of Greater Austin. Amy quickly realized that she needed help preparing for this worthy event and was blessed to have multiple friends step in to help. Because of the great efforts of Amy and her committee this event has grown every year. To date, they have raised just over $40,000 which have been donated to organizations which benefit children and adults diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders. The 6th annual Zumbathon for Autism Awareness will benefit The L.I.F.E. Project. This organization was co-founded by Amy's fellow instructor Vel Londono and her family.
